Coen has three progression paths: Swordmastery, Witchcraft and Vampirism. They share one experience bar and one pool of skill points, but their unlock conditions differ.

That shared pool is the core build decision: spending into one path means not spending those points elsewhere, and learning abilities can also consume narrative time.

Swordmastery

Swordmastery works in both day and night forms. Its two broad directions are defensive resilience and counterattacks, or aggressive pressure and combinations.

You do not unlock the entire tree by leveling alone. New techniques can require manuals found in the world or bought from appropriate fighters. That makes Swordmastery partly a location problem, not only a stat problem.

Witchcraft

Witchcraft is a daytime discipline. It covers direct damage, battlefield control, damage-over-time effects, buffs, debuffs and utility.

New spells and upgrades can require magical manuals found in ancient ruins, haunted places or through practitioners. Because the manuals are tied to exploration and quests, a “best Witchcraft build” cannot be reduced to a level-by-level list without also explaining where the required knowledge comes from.

Vampirism

Vampiric abilities awaken at night and are gated by corruption as well as progression. Feeding pushes Coen further into his vampiric nature and opens access to stronger abilities.

This produces a real build tradeoff: a stronger night kit may carry narrative or moral consequences. We therefore do not rank a high-corruption build as automatically “best.”

Shared XP and skill points

XP can come from defeating enemies, completing objectives, discovering locations and secrets, and overcoming special encounters or bosses. Leveling grants skill points that can be used across all three trees.

Many ability unlocks require time in addition to points, manuals or quest conditions.

Build planning before a stable meta

Use a role-based plan instead of copying a one-size-fits-all “S-tier build”:

Exact perk names, damage breakpoints and rankings can change with patches, so check them in your current version before rebuilding around one claim.

Playing after launch? Patches can change quest timing, combat balance and route details. Check the update date before relying on exact values.
